What catch-up funding is for

The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds. 

Funding allocations

School allocations will be calculated on a per pupil basis.

In 2020-21 Mainstream school received £80 for each pupil in from reception to year 11 inclusive. Some of this funding was carried over in to this financial year.

Using catch-up funding

Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the curriculum expectations for the next academic year.

While schools can use their funding in a way that suits their cohort and circumstances, they are expected to use this funding for specific activities which will help pupils catch up on missed education.

St Felix has used its funding to support all students regain lost learning opportunities. Additional teaching  and support staff hours have been funded to target specific areas of need identified through assessment and tracking. These will be monitored throughout the year and progress between diagnostic tests in Autumn 2021 and Summative tests in Summer 2022 used to assess the efficacy of these actions.

Improvements in summative tests in Summer 2022 indicate spend from Catch Up premium in 2021-22 and 2022-23 and  School Led Tutoring Grant in 2022-23 has been effective.
